Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma of English literature. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. In 1981, she began covering at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel in the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable issues, such as the weapons control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
